p.43: SCHENKER (1986), SCHENKER & ABRECHT (1987) and OBERHÄNSLI et al.(1988) described in detail the stratigraphic characteristics of the Diechtergletscher Formation and its relationships with the Central Aar Granite (Fig.6). SCHENKER & ABRECHT (1987) illustrated the thermal effect of the intrusion on the metasedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Diechtergletscher Formation (Fig.7b). Biotite-garnet and andalusite-biotite-muscovite parageneses in the clay member indicate temperatures far higher than the regional Alpine metamorphism in this area and are therefore interpreted as a contact aureole produced by the intrusion of the Central Aar Granite.
OBERHÄNSLI et al.(1988) associated the Diechtergletscher Formation to older sequences in the Cavardiras area (the Cavardiras Group of the present map sheet, see Tab. 2 and p. 33). These authors attributed small isoclinal folds to a Variscan deformation event, similar to that affecting the rocks of the Cavardiras Group. These deformed sedimentary rocks were then later affected by the intrusion of the Central Aar Granite. As deformation is extremely heterogeneous in all the Carboniferous rocks, the deformation argument was not taken into account. Therefore, the Diechtergletscher Formation was included in the Diechtergletscher-Tscharren Zone.
