Nappe d'origine sud-piémontaise, dont la structuration majeure s'est déroulée au Crétacé (chevauchement de la croûte inférieure sur la croûte supérieure), avant sa mise en place. Elle est constituée principalement d'anciennes roches cristallines, avec localement des métasédiments permo-mésozoïques (Höpfer & Vogler 1995).

p.81: The Dent Blanche Nappe comprises two crystalline basement units. The lower Arolla Unit is essentially composed of metagranitoids and some metagabbro bodies, all of Permian age and more or less deformed. The upper Valpelline Unit consists of paragneisses with mafic and carbonate rocks, characterized by a pre-Alpine amphibolite to granulite-facies metamorphism. A Triassic–Jurassic sedimentary cover (Mont Dolin series) overlies the Arolla Unit in a small area of the Val d’Hérens, west of Arolla.

Schistes phylliteux sombres intensément replissés présents localement à proximité du contact tectonique entre les Groupes de la Valpelline et d'Arolla. Leur métamorphisme ne semble pas (plus?) dépasser le faciès des schistes verts, contrairement aux autres roches du Groupe de la Valpelline, ce qui pourrait indiquer qu'il s'agit de schistes d'âge mésozoïque à rattacher alors au Groupe des Monts Dolin.
