Origin of the Name

Doggers are calcareous or ironstone concretions that are particularly prevalent on the Yorkshire coast, where they often seed around ammonites.

Description

Der Dogger, im Sinn einer lithostratigraphischen Gruppe, fasst diejenigen Formationen zusammen, die ungefähr im erdgeschichtlichen Zeitabschnitt des Mittleren Juras abgelagert wurden. An der Basis wurde aber der Opalinus-Ton schon z.T. ab den späten Frühjura abgelagert. Im Dach enthält die Ifenthal-Formation Sedimente des frühesten Spätjuras.
