p.39: The Tödi Granite Complex consists of different, isolated occurrences of mainly porphyric granites dispersed between the upper Val Russein and Limmernsee. They intrude the Ofenhorn-Stampfhorn Gneiss Complex of the Sustenhorn Zone and pre-Variscan and early Variscan metasedimentary and volcaniclastic rocks of the Val Gliems and Bifertenfirn Formations. This group of plutonic rocks was summarised as Tödi Granite Complex with different facies (porphyric, fine-grained, granodioritic and granophyric; HÜGI 1941). BÖHM (1986) mentioned the frequent occurrence of hornblende in the granite. Deformation can locally be strong; and in the field it is often difficult to separate the Alpine-deformed Variscan plutonic rocks from the granitic gneisses of the polycyclic metamorphic basement. The outcrops at the Bifertengletscher area allowed to define the relative age relationships between the granitic rocks and the older (Visean to pre-Visean) metasedimentary rocks of the Bifertenfirn Formation and the younger (Pennsylvanian) Bifertengrätli Formation (HÜGI 1941, FRANKS 1968 a, b). SCHALTEGGER & CORFU(1995) dated a fine-grained variety of the Tödi Granite Complex in the same area at 333±2 Ma (Fig.4).
