Demgegenüber besteht die rund 100–160 m mächtige Playa-Serie (Blüm 1989; Mittlere Abteilung, Disler 1914) praktisch ausschliesslich aus rotem Tonstein mit von grünen Reduktionshöfen umgebenen Kalzit- und Gipskonkretionen sowie glimmerreichem Silt- und, vor allem im basalen Teil, auch Sandstein.
