Deutsch: Falknis-Decke
Français: nappe du Falknis
Italiano: falda del Falknis
English: Falknis nappe
The Middle Penninic Falknis Nappe (together with the tectonically higher Sulzfluh Nappe) discontinuously overlies thick Lower Penninic «Bündnerschiefer» and flysch of the Tomül Nappe in the Prättigau Half-Window. It is particularly well developed in the area of the eponymous summit where it is subdivided into several slices.
The Falknis Nappe is characterized by a more than 200 m thick Kimmeridgian–Tithonian Breccia overlain by Tithonian–Barremian marly limestones, Barremian–Aptian sandy limestones and fine grained breccias, as well as mid-Cretaceous to Cenozoic quartzbearing sandstone and Couches Rouges.
